Yes, it seems the only reason people go to Milan while on a sightseeing trip is (apart from shopping) to use it as base for lakes. We left the city as quickly as we could manage - it reminded me of Geneva in some ways, which I also did not like.

akbar, Italy is incredibly scenic and endlessly photogenic. Opportunities to stop and click abound, much to the irritation of my wife. The words, "Please, just one more" became a constant lie I had to utter, especially in places like Venice, so much so that, I literally sneaked out at night after she had slept to get my fix of good photos.

VYup, enice is at it's best at first light on a clear morning, with just the locals going about their business - you have the whole of St Mark's Square to yourself...
